Timco Solo Wood & Chipboard Screws – 60 Sizes in Stock
From tiny 3 x 12mm screws for hinges to heavy-duty 6 x 200mm fixings, the Timco Solo range covers almost every indoor woodworking job. Sold in handy packs of 100 or 200, they're the go-to screw for DIY projects, furniture assembly, kitchen fitting and general joinery.
Solo screws have a yellow zinc finish and a double countersunk Pozi head, and drive cleanly into softwood, chipboard and MDF. Use them with a plastic wall plug to fix into masonry.
Key Features
- Huge size range: 60 sizes from 3.0mm to 6.0mm diameter, 12mm to 200mm long
- Double countersunk Pozi head: finishes flush and resists snapping
- Wax coated: less effort to drive, even by hand
- Deep, sharp thread: bites quickly and holds firmly
- Fully threaded up to 75mm; longer screws have a 70mm thread to pull timber tightly together
Which Size Do I Need?
| Diameter | Approx. imperial | Typical uses |
|---|---|---|
| 3.0mm – 3.5mm | No. 6 | Hinges, catches, thin boards, light fixings |
| 4.0mm | No. 8 | General joinery, shelving, brackets, furniture |
| 4.5mm – 5.0mm | No. 10 | Frames, stud work, kitchen units, heavier timber |
| 6.0mm | No. 12 | Heavy-duty fixings and thick timber |
Length tip: choose a screw roughly 2.5 times the thickness of the material you're fixing, so most of the thread grips the piece behind.

FAQs
What's the difference between wood screws and chipboard screws?
Modern chipboard screws like Timco Solo work as general-purpose wood screws. Their deep, sharp single thread grips well in both solid timber and man-made boards such as chipboard and MDF.
What size screw is a No. 8?
A No. 8 screw is roughly 4mm in diameter. A No. 10 is roughly 5mm and a No. 6 is about 3.5mm.
Which driver bit do I need?
Solo screws have a Pozi (PZ) head. The bit size depends on the screw diameter and is shown on the pack. PZ2 is the most common size.
Can I use yellow screws outside?
No. Yellow zinc screws are designed for dry indoor use. For outdoor projects, use A2 or A4 stainless steel screws.
